Well, N'Djamena is pretty safe as a town, but street mugging still happens especially when there are large groups of visitor in town. Beware of the thieves around Marche Central and the riverside area between the French embassy and the Novotel. Constant police checks can also be disturbing so carry on with you your ID and passport.
